..:: Agisting (Boarding) your Alpaca ::..
More and more alpaca owners are taking advantage of agisting, or boarding, their alpacas, rather than maintaining their alpacas on their own land or property. This allows them to enjoy the pleasures of owning alpaca, even if they are not in a position to care for the alpaca themselves.
Reasons for doing so may include:
- People who are planning to, or who are in the process of purchasing a lifestyle block
- People who have purchased bare land and are still in the process of building their dream home
- People who are in the process of moving, and need somewhere to graze their alpacas until they move onto their new property
- People who live in town, and do not have sufficient land available to graze alpacas
- People who live in town because of work commitments and a rural lifestyle is a distant, if not impossible dream
- People who cannot afford at the present to purchase more than one alpaca
- You may purchase your alpacas prior to shifting on to your own property, giving you a head start if you plan to breed, or securing that wether you fell in love with.
- If you already own alpacas, you don't need to sell them just because you are moving property.
- If you live in town b by choice or because of work commitments, or don't have sufficient land, you are not precluded from owning alpacas.
- If you want to breed alpacas but can't afford more than one alpaca to get started, you can agist your female until by natural increase - your female should have 1 cria per year - you have more than one adult alpaca to take to your own property.
- If you want to own a wether or pet alpaca but can't afford more than one, you can agist your wether while you continue to save for a companion.
