Hawkes Bay Show

We competed in the alpaca section of the Hawkes Bay Show on 19 October. As usual, Liz and I drove up the day before, staying with friends overnight, and then returned home after the show. The drive up was horrendous! Towing a trailer in gale force wind is not to be recommended – and its even worse when you add in torrential rain so your visiblity is reduced to almost nothing! However we arrived safely, despite our electrical cable coming out of the socket so we drove for an unknown period of time with no brake/indicator lights on the trailer! The socket sustained damage from bouncing on the road, but fortunately we were able to repair this before driving home.

The show was well run and enjoyable, despite the weather – a cold wind all day intersperced with light rain showers. Our alpacas did moderately well, with NZ Eikon taking a 3rd in the light fawn junior class – a great effort as he was up against steep competition. After a close fought battle Huari Geronimo was just pipped out of first place, taking 2nd in his medium fawn class. Our intermediate blacks NZ Eikon Zy and Huari Devados were 2nd & 3rd repectively in their class.
