We endured a terrific gale last Wednesday, however, we survived without too much damage – and that covered by insurance. While some of the effects of the wind were frightening, the 17 hour power cut that followed was also hard to endure, especially as when we have no power, we have no water either! However, everything is now back to normal apart from the storm debris littering the paddocks – although the alpacas are enjoying a nibble on the downed branches!

Today was an important day for the last of last season cria – weaning day! The mums have gone back to join the main herd, leaving some distraught youngsters. It’ll take around 3 days for them to accept life without Mum, and a similar time for the mothers to start to accept they have lost their babies. It’s hard on us too – we always feel mean!
