Declan is close to weaning age, and is a big boy, and quick to take advantage of sneaking a feed without the effort of getting up!

The flood water was gone 24 hours later, only the damage left behind. You can see in the video the debris piled up against the fence, showing how high the water was at that point. The fence in the right hand corner has been pushed over to a 45 degree angle.

You can just see the river in the background – this is it’s normal winter level.

The extreme wet weather last night did not affect us as much as people in other parts of the country, however, the Kopuaranga River which forms our back boundary overflowed its banks into our river paddock, and I suspect our fence has been washed away. Normally a small river, it now covers all the low-lying area at the back of The Alpaca Place – fortunately we have a bank that prevents it coming any further! The noise you can hear on the video is the sound of the river rushing by.

Winter means indoor tasks get bumped up the “to do” queue, and this month it is the turn of our farm shop to get some attention. Liz has added insulation to the walls, and then covered the insulation with pegboard, which will be used as we add more stock to our shop.
